PASIC 2022
Henry Cole Open Jam Sessions
Escuelas En Ritmo
“Being in rhythm is being connected, inspired, shining, happy. Having a good day is a day in rhythm. Maintaining a discipline for a long time is to be in rhythm, and many other things. So, if we have an education in rhythm, it will be very powerful, ” says the drummer who has achieved international recognition by merging, within the“ Afrobeat ”concept, melodies of jazz, rock and rap with Caribbean rhythms inherited from African music, especially , the Puerto Rican Bomba
It is not the first time that the mayagüezano makes this type of presentation “to educate and share knowledge” but it is the first time that he joins several schools and gives instruments that have been donated by the companies: PDP (DW Drums), LP( Latin Percusion), Zildjian Cymbals and Vic Firth Sticks.
Beyond the instrument. The purpose of these meetings is to share something that is more philosophical than material. Instruments are the vehicle to arrive, education is the main thing. I basically want to tell you things that I have learned and that work for me daily. Even the ones I want to develop using my career in music as an example. I, taking as an example, studying for many years how to be a better person and artist, I realized that what we really need in our schools is philosophy, which has helped me the most."
Teach a philosophy that makes us work harder, support us as a team, not lose humility but be firm and direct, eat well, exercise, be better people, always measure ourselves globally, fight without stopping for our dreams, take risks , have faith, never have excuses, abandon complaints, negative conversations, give more than we receive, take responsibility for our lives, seek God in any way, know well where we come from, learn from our folklore, not only recognize our heroes but be like them and other things.
Purpose. To help generations reach places similar to those that I have been knowing a little more than I knew.
I want them to have an advantage. I want that from an early age they begin to develop the discipline, the love for what is boring, the rudiments, the bases, the nine hours of practice a day. Take care of your body and nourish your spirit. That they dream without fear and then work to make that dream come true against wind and tide. I want to tell you about other cultures. I want to teach them to teach themselves.
I definitely want my person and my art to truly inspire these young people, not just my words. For this I have to apply it myself first. Then helping others I help myself.
